Paddington Station Dressage & Eventing

Instructor/Trainer Helen Johnson

Helen Johnson is a certified British Horse Society instructor originally from England. She started riding at age seven through the British Pony Club and started competing at the age of nine. She has competed extensively in the fields of dressage and combined training, and show jumping (up to 4th Level in Dressage and Intermediate in Eventing). In England, Helen competed in the Pony Club Championships, Riding Club Championships, and the Horse of the Year Show in London. She rode on the British show jumping circuit and qualified for the Combined Training Championships.

She moved to California in 1985 and has been involved in teaching, competing in both dressage and eventing, and breaking and training horses ever since. She currently competes with young horses and has competed in the California Dressage Society Championships and the Area VI eventing championships. Her typical mount is a rescued off-the-track Thoroughbred learning the ropes, and she is pleased to see these horses go on to successful careers with new owners.

She has been a Pony Club instructor and enjoys teaching the fundamentals of correct horsemanship to all ages. Currently, she has a fun-loving group of adult amateurs that enjoy learning and competing. Her expertise lies in the novice rider wishing to gain confidence and knowledge, while at the same time learning correctly in a friendly and safe environment.
